Physiotherapy

We offer physiotherapy in the form of functional muscle work with stretches, therapeutic exercises,  ultrasound, moist hot packs and cryotherapy (ice).

Stretching
We have a fundamental belief that the most primitive way to relax a muscle is by stretching.  Stretching helps decrease tension in the muscles and increases range of motion, or flexibility.  Many of our aches and pains can be reduced by basic stretches, or a combination of stretches and exercise.  Stretching can also reduce injuries or prevent an injury from becoming worse.

Therapeutic Exercises
Therapeutic exercises are given to help with neuromuscular coordination, reducing muscle pain, and increasing flexibility.  Specific exercises can help your body mechanics improve and maybe even lower your golf score.  If all of your muscles work together, you will likely perform better in the sport or activity of your choice.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
This physiotherapy modality has been used since the 1940’s.  Ultrasound is applied using a round-headed wand that is in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Ultrasound lotion is used as a medium for the ultrasound waves to penetrate into the injured area.  It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and therefore reduce pain.

Moist Heat
Moist heat has been shown to reduce muscle spasms, joint stiffness, and dilate blood vessels in an area to increase blood flow to promote healing to damaged muscle tissue.

Cryotherapy (Ice)
Ice has been shown to be beneficial to both acute (new) and chronic conditions.  Applying cold reduces the temperature of an affected area, restricts blood vessels and prevents fluids from leaking into the surrounding tissues. This may reduce pain and swelling.

Wobble Boards are utilized to rehabilitate injuries, improve balance and stability, as well as enhancing core strength and coordination.
